The film: Palestine Sunbird: A Stamp of Defiance
Palestinian protest against Israeli occupation has taken many forms in the past seven decades. In his own form of dissent, artist Khaled Jarrar designs postage and passport stamps for the State of Palestine, using the Palestine Sunbird as the motif.
These tiny, iridescent gems are often found hovering over flowering plants— serving a similar ecological niche as hummingbirds in the Americas. This stunning bird stands today as a glorious symbol of freedom, strength, beauty and resistance.
This Al Jazeera World film focuses on Jarrar and another contemporary artist as they achieve major breakthroughs after having their work being repeatedly censored and turned away by governments and postal systems in other parts of the world. This is one man's story of a peaceful Palestinian protest - a creative yet provocative way of promoting the Palestinian cause across the world.

T-shirt fundraiser for Palestinian American Medical Association
Khalad Jarrar’s Palestine Sunbird postage stamp project, depicted in the documentary we’ll be screening, inspired us to find more powerful ways to express our solidarity with and resistance to the occupation of Palestine.
As a result, we launched a limited edition t-shirt fundraiser, featuring a Palestine Sunbird illustration by Henry Adams.
Order t-shirts through our Bonfire campaign
This campaign will fundraise for humanitarian aid for the victims of bombing, occupation, and genocide in Palestine. The Feminist Bird Club stands in solidarity with Palestinians and supports the freedom of all oppressed peoples. We yearn to bird for a better world, but the concept feels incomprehensible while liberation is out of reach for so many.
Our t-shirts were illustrated by artist Henry Adams (they/them), a wildlife ecologist, educator, and illustrator. They seek to use education, art, and intersectional ecological research to empower and create space for Queer BIPOC joy and community in nature.
All proceeds from the t-shirt campaign, which will run until November 8, will be donated to the Palestinian American Medical Association (PAMA). PAMA’s mission is to provide immediate medical relief to Palestinians living in Gaza and the West Bank and to establish and support programs, education & training that foster the future of Palestinian health care.
