Regional Challenge: Oregon

Date: Saturday, April 12, 2025

Time: 11:30am

Location: Tualatin Community Park, 8515 SW Tualatin Rd, Tualatin, OR 97062

Challenge: Join us as you "Choose your Own Adventure" for 81 minutes! Take a walk around the beautiful trails, ride your bike, walk the dog, read, knit, play frisbee, color, make cards and Love Rocks, learn about kidney cancer, organ donation and cancer prevention, or whatever your heart desires!

Challenge Details: Wear orange! We will meet at the Main Shelter where you can pick up your tshirt and get settled. The 81 minute timer will begin at 11:30am and you'll be on your own to time yourself for 81 minutes (or however long you’re able).

We hope you’ll join our event! Click JOIN THE 81K CHALLENGE on the right panel and bring your family, friends, and neighbors! If you're unable to join in person, you can still make a donation to a participant or to the team.

Let’s continue our tradition: Last year, at our inaugural event, Oregon raised almost $35,000 and was the top fundraising team in the nation! With your help, we can do it again! Please share this event with your family and friends. We encourage you to bring a friend to this year’s event and introduce them to kidney cancer advocacy!

FAQs:

  • How do I sign up to come to the event? Sign up by clicking the "Join the Challenge" button (on the right on your computer and at the top on your phone). You'll then be prompted to create a personal page.

  • Do I have to create a personal page to sign up to come? Yes, I know that can be confusing but it's the only way for me to know who is coming. You don't have to do anything with your page, but if you'd like to, you can donate there and you can share it with others to receive donations.

  • Is there a sponsor match this year? Yes, right now an oncology company is matching all donations made!

  • How much do I need to raise for a tshirt? $50 (or $25 since there's a sponsor match!)

  • Do I have to raise money to come? No! Awareness is just as important as money so please come either way! (just don't forget to sign up!)

  • Where can I donate if I can't come? If you're unable to attend the event in person, you can still donate on this page or to a participant.

  • Should I choose a specific funding source for my donation? If you donate, you'll be given a few choices for where you want your donation to go. I would encourage you to choose "Chromophobe Research." Chromophobe is my rare subtype (only 5% of all kidney cancers are chromophobe) and due to its rarity, there isn't much research being done and the only treatment option at this time is surgery. Any help toward researching Chromophobe is very much appreciated!

  • How can I help spread the word? This is so important! Please share about the event with family and friends or on social media. Bring a family member or friend with you who doesn't have a connection to kidney cancer. The more people who come, the more awareness will be spread!

About the 81K Challenge: Almost 81,000 people will be diagnosed with kidney cancer this year. Together, we can support kidney cancer research that changes lives. The KCA is challenging YOU with the 81K Challenge in honor of the patients fighting this disease and in pursuit of a cure.

The Challenge kicks off in March during Kidney Cancer Awareness Month and concludes on June 19th during World Kidney Cancer Day. Participants get creative and set a goal based on what they love. Ride your bike 8.1 miles, run for 81 minutes, or spend 81 minutes meditating – with a little imagination, there are no limits. No matter what you choose to do or how much money you raise, you’ll be joining a community of change-makers working to find a cure for kidney cancer.
