Our Mission
It is the mission of the Alaska Chapter National Down Syndrome Network to provide education and information for members, new parents, and the community as a whole, to give parent-to-parent support to families of children with Down Syndrome, to gather socially and share experiences, and to be an advocacy group for individuals with Down Syndrome.
Every year, we gather and celebrate our community at our Alaska Walk for Down Syndrome, one of our largest fundraisers. Please join us by signing up to attend or by leaving a donation help us reach our goal and help fund our organization's critical programs.
This year the AKDSN has partnered with the NDSS to award the individual/team who raises the most money with a spot in the 2025 NYC Times Square video for the NYC Buddy Walk in September. The winner will be announced at the walk on June 14th. A professional photographer will be taking photos of your loved one, visible on the big screen in Times Square and these photos will be shared with you.
Every year, NDSS reminds the world in a BIG way about the value that people with Down syndrome bring to their communities through a special video presentation on a jumbo screen, generously donated by Clear Channel, in the heart of Times Square.
500 individuals are chosen to appear in the Times Square Video, and NDSS tries to choose as many new faces as possible each year to highlight the diversity and beauty of our community. The hour-long presentation kicks off the NYC Buddy Walk® and is streamed live on Facebook.
