Daily Check-in: Top Team (#, $$ Raised), Individual Fundraiser, Largest FQHC
Wow! Everyone is doing an amazing job this year with teams and fundraising. For each $15,000 raised (after event expenses) will fund a Federally Qualified Health System for a year to improve access to screening and CRC care for their patients. Let's keep on helping them make sure all patients have equal access to quality care.
Top stats at the moment (3:00pm, Friday):
Largest Team: Cristina’s Colon Cancer Crew - 24 members
Team Raising the Most Donations: PBMS Polyps - $3,460
Individual Raising the Most Donations: Cristina Patrick - $1,205
Largest FQHC Team: Neighborhood Health - 2 members
We will try to update this daily until race day!
ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED!!
ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED. HOWEVER, WE REALLY HOPE YOU WILL STILL CONSIDER JOINING US, AS THE PRICE TO PARTICIPATE REMAINS THE SAME AND WE WILL HAVE A GREAT TEAM ONSITE HELPING YOU GET REGISTERED QUICKLY.
The DONATE button continues to function as we only need to close registration so the timing company can get the race day bibs ready this evening.
You all have been VERY generous with your donations and we are blown away by the level of support. If you get a chance, check out the many of the teams who are there to honor loved ones with colorectal cancer.
If you engage with those wearing the bright green survivor T-shirts, they might welcome the chance to share a bit of their story. This might also be a little personal inspiration for protecting your own gut health. We are really trying to get ahead of the increasing number cases of CRC in younger Californians as part of our overall efforts.
We are also thankful to our event sponsors - make sure to check out all the tables surrounding the race gathering place and community outreach and education is a critical feature of this event.
Finally, remember to take a tour through the inflatable colon if you are curious about what docs are checking for if they happen to recommend you get a colonoscopy.
Race Day Swag
Just a reminder that we have a variety of swag, beyond the t-shirts and medals, to be given out on race day.
Everyone is eligible for T-shirts and competing for the top three finisher medals in each age group in the 5k race. Survivors will receive their own special medal for completing the race.
For overall prizes - we have a special prize for each of the following:
The team raising the most money
The team with the most members
The individual raising the most money
The FQHC with the most members participating
For individuals raising $150 or more, we have a special event water bottle that is an insulated hot/cold and easy to carry gift for you. You can also donate onsite at the C4 table to reach that amount and earn the water bottle.
For those with 4-legged friends, we have fun event branded dog-friendly frisbees that are available if you donate $10 at the C4 table. As you take your pups for walks, the frisbee can be a good conversation starter on the importance of getting screened for colorectal cancer, or having that important discussion with your physician if you have symptoms. We know dogs have no inhibitions about their poop so hoping that encourages the humans at the race to also get more comfortable with these discussions.
A little inspiration for why to join the race!
Dr. Samir Gupta, a San Diego gastroenterologist with both UCSD and the San Diego VA , and a C4 board member, was interviewed by KPBS about the fundamentals of screening and risks for colorectal cancer. To listen to the interview, click HERE (audio file only).
Time remaining until the start of the race! Online registration closes March 28th at 5pm - before the race starts
If you miss the online registration deadline, you are welcome to register onsite at our event. See you Saturday, March 29th!
