To celebrate 60 years of Notre Dame Rowing, we’re inviting every rower, coxswain, alum, and supporter to help us do something big: symbolically row, bike, swim, hike, or run 6 million meters—the distance from the McConnell Family Boathouse in South Bend to Kylemore Abbey in County Galway, Ireland, a sacred touchpoint in the Notre Dame family. But there’s a twist: Each decade will compete to log the most meters and raise the most funds. Bragging rights (and Irish glory) are on the line. When: August 5 – September 5 Who: Alumni, families, parents, friends, current rowers & coxswains — anyone who’s ever pulled for ND Rowing Goal: 6,000,000 meters @ 1¢ per meter = $60,000 Why: Because the next 60 years of Irish rowing starts with us
How it works
Click "Join the Challenge" at the top of the page.
If you plan to team up, click "Join A Team" and choose your decade's team. If you're going solo, say "No, thank you" and participate with us as an individual!
Estimate how many meters you’ll be rowing, walking, riding or running from August 5th - September 5th. Whether it's 50, 500, or 5000 meters, there's no amount too big or small!
Reach out to friends and family to ask if they’ll support your efforts by donating to you! They can make a pledge per meter or donate a flat amount to support your efforts.
Log your meters during the month of the challenge from the "Activity" tab or directly through the reminder emails you get.
Keep an eye on the leaderboards to see how your friends and competitors are doing!
What is this challenge?
Row, Erg, Run, Walk, Cycle, and Swim with us as we are virtually covering 6,000,000 meters — the distance from the Boathouse to Kylemore Abbey.
We’re aiming to raise a penny per meter — $60,000 — to support the Notre Dame Rowing team and help fuel its next 60 years. Decades will face off against each other to see who can log the most meters and raise the most money. Prizes — and bragging rights — will be awarded during Alumni Row Weekend this fall.
Who can participate?
Every member of our community: Alumni, families, parents, friends, current rowers — if you’ve ever cheered on Notre Dame Rowing, we’d love for you to be part of it. If you can't participate, make a donation to support our efforts!
