First Tee Golf Outing in Memory of Tim Drossart
We're Building Game Changers
At First Tee, we're Building Game Changers by empowering kids and teens through golf.
First Tee Northeast Wisconsin is a non-profit organization that is committed to empowering youth through the game of golf. Its core mission is to help kids build strength of character, enabling them to face life’s challenges with confidence and resilience. By integrating the sport of golf with a comprehensive life skills curriculum, First Tee offers young people the opportunity to develop not only their golfing abilities but also essential personal skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
Founded in 1997 as the Learning Through Golf Foundation, First Tee Northeast Wisconsin began with the goal of teaching local youth the benefits and values of golf. Over the next seven years, the program gained momentum, expanding its reach and attracting the attention of the national First Tee organization, which focuses on making golf affordable and accessible to all children. On April 29, 2005, the Learning Through Golf Foundation officially became an affiliate of First Tee, marking a significant milestone in its growth. Since then, the organization has made a profound impact, serving over 12,000 children and teens at its golf facility and reaching more than 75,000 students through collaborative school programming.
The foundation of First Tee’s program lies in its five key commitments, which are designed to help participants discover their inner strengths and develop important life skills. These commitments guide the lessons and activities, focusing on pursuing goals, growing through challenges, collaborating with others, building a positive self-identity, and using good judgment. Through the process of learning golf, kids are also taught how to approach life with a positive mindset, a willingness to work hard, and an ability to navigate difficulties with determination and grace.
Each lesson provided by First Tee is carefully crafted to encourage personal growth. Kids learn how to pursue their goals, even in the face of obstacles, and how to collaborate effectively with others. Building a strong sense of self-worth is emphasized, as is the importance of using good judgment in everyday situations. These lessons extend beyond the golf course and into all aspects of the participants' lives, giving them the tools to succeed in school, relationships, and future careers.
The organization’s comprehensive approach not only enhances young people’s golfing skills but also nurtures critical character traits that will help them become resilient, responsible, and well-rounded individuals. By combining golf with life skills education, First Tee Northeast Wisconsin has created an environment where kids can flourish both on and off the course, preparing them for whatever challenges lie ahead.
First Tee Northeast Wisconsin continues to inspire and empower youth across the region, providing a safe and supportive space where children and teens can grow, learn, and build lasting character. Its impact resonates far beyond the green, shaping the future of many young lives through the sport of golf and the valuable life lessons that come with it.
