When I joined my fraternity years ago, I was looking for connection and community with other Black queer and same-gender loving men, and our gender-expansive siblings. I needed that support, and I wanted to pour back into us too. I’ve been lucky to do both.

Along the way, I got deeply interested and involved in HIV prevention and awareness work. I’ve learned a lot about HIV criminalization, about the ways the epidemic has impacted people I love, and about what it really takes to care for our community. And once you know these things, you can’t unknow them.

Right now, public health programs are taking real hits. Funding cuts are affecting services that have proven to reduce new HIV infections and support people living with HIV to stay undetectable (and yes—undetectable = untransmittable). This is how we end the epidemic… but we have to keep showing up.

So I’m riding again in the NorCal AIDS Cycle this May. I hope to raise as much as possible to raise unrestricted funds for organizations in our Northern California area, including the Gender Health Center. Thank you so much for your generosity!
