Saturday | April 20 | 5:00 PM ET | 4:00 PM CT

Virtual Action Hour for Palestine

Is “birding for a better world” truly within our reach? Want to take action for Palestine, but don’t know where to start? Join us for another Birders for Palestine Action Hour on April 20 at 5:00 PM ET / 2:00 PM PT on Zoom to learn about the Boycott, Divest, and Sanctions (BDS) movement; support Palestinians through purchasing eSIMs; and reflect in community with other birders working towards a Free Palestine. This drop-in event is for anyone and everyone who is aligned with calls for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza - all levels of experience and participation are welcome.

First time attendee registration is required to receive the event link, but feel free to drop in and out as you need. Registration closes the day before the event. This program is co-sponsored by Chicago BIPOC Birders, the Feminist Bird Club, Birdhers, and Special Bird Service Society.

Event details

The Birders for Palestine Action Hours are drop-in sessions with multiple small groups, each focused on specific actions that you can opt in to. These actions will aim to cater to a diversity of skills, interests and abilities. Offerings may include contacting congressional representatives, purchasing e-sims, discussing ways to boycott companies that participate in Israel’s oppression of Palestinians, crafting birds for the @birdsofgaza project, making signs for protests, guided reflections, and intentionally holding space for bird joy while grieving a broken world. Along the way, we’ll make time to celebrate the steps we each take to liberate Palestine, no matter how insignificant they may seem.

This event is free and open to everyone, but we especially welcome:

  • Those looking for community accountability and inspiration for their role in liberating Palestine.
  • Those who feel overwhelmed and don’t know how to begin or how to sustain their activism (including neurodivergent folks who struggle with motivation and attention).
  • Those who haven’t felt able to participate in direct actions like protests because of a disability, the pandemic, family, etc.
  • Those who haven’t taken any action for Palestine yet (including folks who aren’t tuned in to the news from Palestine).
