Be a Leader - STEP UP!

Our 27th Annual Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk is one of the largest awareness events in the Mid-South. October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and STEP UP for Down Syndrome calls on the community to celebrate the abilities and accomplishments of individuals with Down Syndrome. We want to join together with the community to show that people with Down Syndrome are "More alike than Different."

Stepping up can often lead to positive outcomes for everyone involved. When individuals or groups take initiative and show leadership, it encourages others to do the same. This helps to foster a community that is engaged in stepping together to combine our strengths and skills, leading to a more productive and positive environment for everyone involved. Stepping UP can help raise awareness, initiate change, and create a ripple effect that benefits the broader community. Stepping UP and making a difference can provide a sense of personal satisfaction and fulfillment. Knowing that one has contributed, made a positive impact, or helped others can be deeply rewarding and contribute to a person's overall well-being and happiness.

Ultimately, when individuals Step UP, it creates a positive cycle of growth, collaboration, and impact. It empowers individuals, strengthens communities, and contributes to a better society as a whole. We hope our Step UP event will promote inclusivity, acceptance, and understanding while highlighting the accomplishments and potential of individuals with Down Syndrome.

The Down Syndrome Association of Memphis & the Mid-South depends on donations and fundraisers to provide programs and services and to meet our yearly operational costs. It is only through the generosity of many individuals, corporations and grants that the DSAM is able to provide programs and services for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families throughout the Mid-South. Our vision is a community where individuals with Down Syndrome are fully included, supported, and empowered to reach their fullest potential. The DSAM encompasses various aspects to ensure that people with Down Syndrome and their families have access to the resources, opportunities, and advocacy they need to lead fulfilling lives through our resources, programs, social events, parent mentoring, trainings & education, IEP support, tutoring, camps and more.

When you Step Up, your support helps to provide our programs and services to help individuals with Down Syndrome and their families!

Each October during Down Syndrome Awareness Month, Step UP for Down Syndrome is an event organized to raise awareness and support for individuals with Down Syndrome. The Down Syndrome Association of Memphis & the Mid-South (DSAM) has watched this event grow and impact the surrounding community for the past twenty five years. Step UP is a family-friendly event on a Sunday afternoon. It includes a one mile fun walk, live entertainment, a picnic, children's activities (inflatables and games) and prizes.

We want to celebrate the abilities of individuals with Down Syndrome and raise funds for the DSAM. Participants can form teams, fundraise and collect donations from friends, family and businesses to contribute to the DSAM.
