Support Bird-friendly Reforestation in Waukesha with the Goss Hawks!

Birds need our help! North America has lost over 3 billion birds since the 1970s, but we can help #BringBirdsBack. By donating to our team, you're supporting the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin's Bird Protection Fund, which funds Wisconsin's highest priority bird conservation projects.

Locally, your support will also help conservation in the Waukesha County Parks. Half of the proceeds donated through our team will come back to the local community. Our team, backed by the Benjamin F. Goss Bird Club, will be fundraising for reforestation projects in Waukesha Parks. Much of our proceeds will be used to purchase bird-friendly trees and shrubs to be planted at Fox River Park in Waukesha. Adding these plants will continue to make Fox River Park a great place for birds! Birds have made an incredible difference in our lives and we want to protect them. Every dollar counts when it comes to helping our birds, so no donation is too small. Thank you for considering!

Another week, another hawk nest found! This time we located a Broad-winged Hawk nest in Monches Woods. The Golden-crowned Kinglets are still singing not to far away from the hawks, and I may have located a nest site. No "confirmed" breeding activity yet, though. Those little guys are so hard to find up in the spruce trees!

Spring has been full of awesome discoveries!

Focusing in Monches Woods has paid off with 3! singing Golden-crowned Kinglets, a pair of begging baby Barred Owls, and a Red-shouldered Hawk nest with two fluffy young!

I've also continued to monitor nest boxes at Ryan Park. The Eastern Bluebirds abandoned both boxes they were occupying. I have no idea why this happened, but the Tree Swallows quickly took over, so at least someone is using the boxes. I now have 100% Tree Swallow occupancy in the 10 boxes I monitor, and some of the eggs have started hatching. So fun!

And while the bird surveys are great, I hope we can also do some fundraising. My personal goal is close to being met, but our team is still only about half way to the goal, so hopefully we can see some late action at our team page.

Good Birding!

Your Donation Makes a Difference For Birds

Donations made to the Great Wisconsin Birdathon support the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin’s Bird Protection Fund, which has given out over $1.4 million towards Wisconsin’s highest priority bird conservation projects since its inception in 2009.

Whether it's creating Piping Plover habitat, rearing Whooping Crane chicks, spreading awareness about declining songbirds, supporting community initiatives for bird-friendly neighborhoods, engaging new and underrepresented voices in the birding community, building impactful collaborations to protect Wisconsin's Important Bird Areas, or protecting our neotropical migrants on their long migratory journeys to Central America... the Bird Protection Fund is there to help.

Your donations make this work possible. Thank you for supporting on-the-ground conservation and being there #ForTheBirds!
