Every Minute Counts for Sickle Cell
Sickle cell disease affects approximately 100,000 Americans, but it is underfunded, under researched and underrepresented. It’s time to stand up for sickle cell warriors and push for the education, treatment and support that our community deserves.
#MoveForSickleCell with us and every minute you spend active will make a difference in our fight against this disease.
The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA) has been the leading sickle cell advocacy group in the United States for 50 years. We advocate for people affected by sickle cell conditions and empower community-based organizations to maximize quality of life and raise public consciousness while advancing the search for a universal cure. Our more than 50 member organizations support sickle cell research, public and professional health education and patient and community services.
Move with us this summer and stand up for sickle cell. Start tracking your movement on June 19, World Sickle Cell Day, and join us for a Celebration of Steps on July 30. If you’re up to the challenge, try to move 50 hours during the campaign to celebrate our 50th anniversary!
Why We Move
Imagine pain that feels like glass in your veins. Imagine pain that sends you to the emergency room. Imagine explaining the pain to the ER doctors - and they don't believe you. Imagine you have to fight for relief. Imagine this happens every few months - and while there are treatments to manage it, you will likely face this battle for your whole life.
If you are one of the 100,000 individuals in the United States who suffer from sickle cell disease, you don't have to imagine any of this. For far too many, it is the reality. We believe in a world where sickle cell never holds anyone back. Will you join us?
