A Continual Feast consists of 12 artist-hosted meals that will take place across the US from July 5, 2026 until July 4, 2027. The curatorial team, led by Abigail Winograd and assisted by Michael Christiano and Jill Sterrett, will work with a cohort of socially engaged artists who will be paired with activists and community organizations. Operating in a coalition-based mode, the curators, artists, and organizers will develop a guest list and stage a ceremonial meal in their home communities or in places where they are currently organizing community-based projects. Gifting – in the guise of an artist-produced object, specifically created for each meal, that will be given to participants at each event – is at the center of each gathering. The project builds on the existing history of communal-meals-as-artist-organized-events; it likewise follows the theoretical frameworks of Social Sculpture and Relational Aesthetics in that all participants are essential to the creation and shaping of the resulting physical, social, and psychological space. At its core, A Continual Feast is rooted in our collective desire to feel safe, fed, and understood.
