Our Mission
Play It Forward, a program of Wheeling Forward, empowers children, adults, and veterans with disabilities to keep moving forward, overcome barriers, inspire personal growth, and discover their full potential through adaptive sports.
We are committed to creating an inclusive world where disability does not limit possibility. Through free, transformative adaptive sports programs and experiences, Play It Forward gives participants the opportunity to build confidence, experience joy and freedom, connect with community, and challenge what they thought was possible.
By bringing together athletes, families, volunteers, instructors, and community partners, we aim to shift mindsets, foster inclusion, and elevate individuals and communities to achieve their fullest potential. Whether through surfing, skating, water skiing, fitness, or other adaptive recreation opportunities, Play It Forward helps people with disabilities experience the power of movement, adventure, and belonging.

Adaptive Surf In Action!
THE CAUSE
For many people with disabilities, access to sports, recreation, and outdoor adventure is still limited by physical, financial, and social barriers. Play It Forward was created to change that.
On Saturday, July 11, 2026, Play It Forward will bring Adaptive Surf NYC back to Rockaway Beach, New York. Athletes with disabilities will have the opportunity to ride the waves with support from trained adaptive surf instructors, volunteers, safety staff, and the disability community.
The event will include adaptive surf sessions, equipment and safety support, beach access assistance, music, food, community gathering, and a full day of encouragement and celebration. Whether someone is surfing for the first time or returning to the ocean again, Adaptive Surf NYC creates a safe, inclusive, and empowering space for participants and families.
Your support helps make this event free and accessible by covering the cost of adaptive equipment, surf instruction, beach logistics, safety supports, food, volunteer coordination, and the many details needed to create a meaningful experience for every participant.
Together, we can help people with disabilities experience the ocean, the thrill of adaptive sports, and the power of a community that believes disability should never limit possibility.
