What is the NCDSA Buddy Walk?
The NCDSA Buddy Walk is the organization’s largest event of the year — and the heart of our community. Each year, nearly 2,000 participants come together for a day that feels like a true family reunion, bringing together individuals with Down syndrome, their families, friends, and supporters from across the state.
The event starts at 1 pm, with families able to bring folding chairs, tents or blankets to enjoy the vendors, music and food. It's a laid back celebration of all! The short 1/4 mile walk begins at 3:21 pm, lined by photographs of loved ones with Down syndrome.
There’s something for everyone to enjoy, from a DJ, tailgating and picnicking, to food trucks, crafts activities for all ages, and valuable community resources. It’s a day filled with connection, celebration, and shared purpose. Everyone is welcome!
Buddy Walk is free to attend, but it is also our largest fundraiser of the year. If you are able, consider creating a team and asking peers to help support NCDSA, the only statewide, grassroots nonprofit serving people with Down syndrome in NC! Buddy Walk funds enable us to provide crucial services like family navigation, advocacy, medical outreach, education support, skill building, and social programming. As an audited, accredited and national award winning nonprofit created in 1987 and recognized for operational excellence, NCDSA is a go-to resources for families across the state.
Be part of something meaningful as we come together to raise awareness and critical funds. Whether you’re personally connected to Down syndrome or simply want to show your support, you’re invited to join us. Register, donate, and help spread the word — everyone is welcome at this unforgettable celebration!
