Q. What is Ride For A Child?

Ride for a Child (RFAC) is an annual fundraiser in which a group of cyclists raise funds for the nonprofit organization, Candlelighters For Children With Cancer. Ride for a Child cyclists train and fundraise starting in the spring for the main event, Cycle Oregon’s 5-day Rally ride, in August and September.

Q. When is Ride for a Child?

Ride for a Child begins with a kickoff for riders in the spring. Group training rides follow in preparation for the Cycle Oregon Rally, a 5-day ride from August 28- September 2, 2026. This year the ride will take place in the historic Applegate Valley in Southern Oregon. Ride for a Child is part of the Rally. For more information about the Cycle Oregon Rally, please visit their website and click on rally details.

Whether you are participating in Cycle Oregon or, at your own pace, you'll record your miles on this website for the duration of the fundraising campaign, January 1 - October 31, 2026.

Q. How Does Ride For A Child partner with Cycle Oregon?

At the Cycle Oregon Rally, we will have a Ride for a Child team and camp/ride as a group. A dedicated crew supports our team with tents/tent-setup, packing gear, refreshments, and lots of TLC. 2026 customized jerseys are also provided. In 2025, there were 36 riders. For 2026, our goal is to reach 40 riders! You’ll be part of a community, riding to make a difference.

Q. How do I Register if I want to ride in Cycle Oregon, raising funds for Ride for a Child?

The first step is to sign up for the Cycle Oregon rally and pay the registration fee (apprx. $1600). Important! You do not need to sign up for the porter service when signing up for the Cycle Oregon Rally. We offer tent and porter service when you register for Ride for a Child and pledge to fundraise!

After signing up and paying the registration fee for the Cycle Oregon rally, the next step is to sign up with Ride for a Child:

  1. Select "Ride," then choose how you want to fundraise - join a team, create a team, or fundraise on your own.

  2. If you select "Join a Team," pick an Honored Child team, keeping in mind we want an even distribution of riders per team.

  3. Sign up and set a mileage goal. You can edit your miles goal later.

  4. Fundraise for donations per mile (donors can also give one-time donations).

  5. Record your miles every week during the fundraising period (you'll get reminder emails to enter your time)

Q. Can I still ride and fundraise if I'm not riding with the Cycle Oregon team?

Yes! You can participate without riding with the team at Cycle Oregon's rally by just registering for Ride for a Child and setting your own riding goals, pace and fundraising goals.

Q. What Happens After I Register?

You'll receive emails with important dates, including the kickoff for riders in the spring. We will introduce this year’s Honored Children, who you will be riding in honor of, throughout Ride For A Child 2026. Ask any past rider and they will tell you that some of the most motivating moments of Ride For A Child come from connecting with your Honored Child through emails, letters, pizza parties, and a ride-out event. In addition, you’ll join a community of riders for training rides throughout the spring and summer!
