Matthew Turner Sailing Cruise on the San Francisco Bay
$175 starting bid
Starts May 9, 8:00 AM PDT
Item description
Come aboard brigantine Matthew Turner, a traditionally rigged tall ship, for a 2-3 hour sail on San Francisco Bay. The experience starts and ends in Sausalito, at the Bay Model Visitor Center.
After the safety briefing and getting underway, the crew will invite those who want to help hoist the sail to join in. Relax and enjoy breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and Angel Islands, as the crew expertly handles the ship. Or you can ask for a turn at the helm and learn about sailing from the Captain and crew. Every sail is an educational experience aboard the historically inspired brigantine Matthew Turner.
The Matthew Turner is designed after the ship Galilee, which was built in the late 1800’s by the ship designer and builder Matthew Turner. The Galilee held the San Francisco to Tahiti passage record of 19 days for many years.
Call of the Sea built this traditional wooden tall ship to join their fleet and serve as an experiential learning platform for Bay Area youth. The eleven sails offer a perfect opportunity to engage many students in an exciting and meaningful hands-on experience. They must use team work and communicate well to power the ship safely.
Being docked at the Bay Model Visitor Center’s Pier in Sausalito allows students to learn about the Bay’s unique geography and hydrology on shore, and on deck.
