ABOUT.

What is A Leg To Stand On?

A Leg To Stand On (ALTSO) is a 501c3 NYC based nonprofit providing  free prosthetic limbs, orthotic braces, and appropriately fitted wheelchairs to children (CoolKids) living in LMICs. Mobility provides the foundation needed to break the poverty cycle: independence, education, and future gainful employment.

What is Mobility Awareness Month?

Mobility Awareness Month is a month dedicated to raising awareness on the importance of mobility. Mobility is something often taken for granted, but affects everything we do and every opportunity we have. More than movement, mobility is a human right. Thanks for joining us to celebrate together.

LOGISTICS.

When does the campaign start?

You can start fundraising to reach your goal as soon as you sign up until May 9 to help us raise $75,000. However, you can only start tracking your movement goal progress during the week of our campaign, starting May 5 and ending May 9.

Why do I need to sign up for an account?

Your account is a central place where you can access your campaign page, fundraising totals, and movement totals.

How do teams work?

You can join an existing team (just search for the name of the team), create your own team, or move at your own pace.

Is Pickleball part of Move?

Yes! Our Pickleball event on May 8 also celebrates Mobility Awareness Month and contributes to our $75,000 fundraising goal, and you can sign up here. To secure your spot, teams have to raise $750 (4-6 per team) and individuals/free agents raise $125. Please note: you have to sign up for the Pickleball event separately from Move and fundraise separately; your Move goals will not automatically count towards this event.

FUNDRAISING.

How can my community support my efforts?

Your community can support your efforts by signing up to join your team and Move with you or supporting your fundraising goal with a one-time donation or donation pledge. You will receive a notification when someone donates or pledges!

What is a pledge?

A pledge is an estimated donation that is dependent on your movement total. For example, a donor may pledge $1 per mile. If you move 50 miles from May 5 - May 9th, that donor will be invoiced for a $50 donation. If you move fewer or more miles than anticipated, the donation amount would be adjusted accordingly.

When is a pledge charged?

If a donor chooses to leave a pledge, no financial transaction will occur at the time of their pledge. They will receive a pledge confirmation email with an estimate of their donation based on the goal the participant has set for their performance. After the campaign is complete, the donor will receive a pledge invoice that informs them of their final donation amount a link to manage their pledge if they need to make changes or cancel. Donors who pledged are charged for their final donation amount 48 hours after the pledge invoice is sent.
