The entertainment and counter culture vibes in early roller derby included retro themes, sex appeal, and enteraining half time shows. The penalty wheel (top right) is an example of one half-time activity. Modern derby games continue to include half-time entertainment and games, but today, leagues focus on hosting community groupls (e.g. local bands, folklórico dancers) without the sexualized overtones and glorified violence.
