Why I Bird For Point Blue

I am thrilled to be participating in Point Blue's 2025 Rich Stallcup Bird-A-Thon! Now in its 47th year, this event is an opportunity to connect, learn, and grow as a nature-loving community and to raise conservation funds to secure a healthy planet. My youth birding group will be meeting early in the morning and spend the day traversing Sonoma County, finding as many bird species as possible. It is a chance for us to see where bird populations are at now compared to past years, connect with other birders, and advocate the incredible conservation efforts Point Blue carries out. As federal funds crucial to funding these projects have been cut, Point Blue needs our community support more than ever.

Please consider helping me reach my fundraising goal by making a donation or by pledging a dollar amount based on the number of bird species I see.

Thank you for your generous support and help in spreading the word. To learn more about Point Blue Conservation Science and their climate-smart conservation initiatives, visit their website at www.pointblue.org.

I'm thrilled to say that we saw 124 species yesterday! Starting at 7:00 am, my group visited a diverse range of ecosystems across Sonoma County. Highlights included stunning views of the elusive Least Bittern, not one but two Loggerhead Shrikes (!), an Eurasian Widgeon, and a flock of Greater White-fronted Geese. Doing the count this late in the year meant that we got an interesting overlap of late summer and early fall/winter migrants. The weather couldn't have been more perfect-it was clear and the air crisp and cool.

Thank you all for your kind donations-they will be funding Point Blue's awesome projects! Together, with all the dedicated birdathon teams, we have raised $94,000 -and counting! That's amazing!
