48th Annual Rich Stallcup Bird-A-Thon

Many thanks to Bird-A-Thon supporter, Marcia Grand for her generosity and creative ideas for challenges this year!

• $500 for any brand-new team.
  Must be a new team and not a new team name.

• $500 for each team that identifies the most species of Gulls. Eligible Species: All members of the gull subfamily, including gulls and kittiwakes. Note: excluded from this category are terns.

• $500 for each team that identifies the most species of Shorebirds.
  Eligible Species: All classic shorebirds, including sandpipers, plovers, avocets, stilts, oystercatchers, phalaropes, godwits, curlews, whimbrels, dowitchers, snipes, turnstones, and surfbirds. Note: excluded from this category are gulls as well as large wading and marsh birds like herons, egrets, cranes, and rails.

• $500 for each team that identifies the most species of Owls. Eligible Species: All members of the owl order (including owls, owlets, and boobooks).

• $500 for each team that identifies the most species of Woodpeckers.
  Eligible Species: All members of the woodpecker family (including woodpeckers, flickers, and sapsuckers).

• $500 for each team that identifies the most species of Sparrows.
  Eligible Species: All New World sparrows (family Passerellidae), such as true sparrows, towhees, and juncos.

• $500 for each team that identifies the most species of Snakes.

If there is a tie for any category, each team in the tie receives the bonus.
