One of Arlington's true gems is the AFD Theater/Arlington Friends of the Drama. Founded in 1923, it is one of the ten oldest continually operating community theatre groups in the country. It is among the finest area playhouses for actors, directors, production designers, and audiences to produce and enjoy live theatre.

AFD Theater puts on 4 productions each season. The 2025-2026 season looks to be another blockbuster season and will include:

• Triumph of Love (musical) in September 2025

  This musical is a romantic farce based on a classic 1732 Pierre de Marivaux French comedy.

• Spider's Web (by Agatha Christie) in December 2025

  In this conscious parody of the detective thriller, Agatha Christie delivers a unique blend of suspense and humor in an intricate plot of murder, police, drug addicts, invisible ink, hidden doorways and secret drawers.

• Once On This Island (musical) in March 2026

  A coming-of-age one-act stage musical that concerns a peasant girl in the French Antilles who falls in love with a rich boy and makes a deal with the gods to save his life.

• Louisa May Alcott's Little Women in May 2026

  AFD has obtained rights to this new adaptation of Little Women by acclaimed American playwright Lauren Gunderson. AFD’s production will be the non-professional premiere of the play.
