Our Mission

I am cycling to raise money for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, and I hope you will consider donating for my ride from Anacortes, Washington, and ending 4,280 miles later in Bar Harbor, Maine. If you want to cycle wherever you are to support this cause you can click “Join” and start your own campaign.

How It Works

Click "Join" button at the top of the page

1. Estimate how many miles you’ll ride between July 4th and September 30 ( the estimated time I will be riding). Whether it's 10, 50, or 500 miles, there's no amount too big or small! Peloton, and stationary bike miles COUNT.

2. Reach out to friends and family to ask if they’ll support your efforts by donating to you! They can make a pledge per mile or donate a flat amount to your efforts.

3. Log your miles daily by connecting your Strava account or log them manually directly through our site. Be sure to create updates regularly so your donors can see what you are up to.

4. Keep an eye on the leaderboards to see how your friends and competitors are doing!

Why I Ride

When I was five years old, I remember looking into my grandma’s bedroom mirror and making a promise to myself. I promised that little girl that someday, somehow, she would do something “big” in her life and help lots of other people. I didn’t know what or how, I just knew!

Two years ago, at 64 years of age I set a goal of riding my bike 9 miles to work and 9 miles home again. I was determined to conquer my commute to work so I got a squeaky old bike out of my storage shed and the next morning I set off. I quickly realized that I had no idea about how hard it would be for an out-of-shape, overweight, 64-year-old woman to begin cycling. The first day I could only ride two miles without stopping for a rest, then one more mile, then one more mile, until after many rest stops, I finally made it to work. Each day I was able to push just a little further than the day before until I finally rode the full nine miles without stopping.

Little did I know that I was falling in love with this sport and still, little by little, was getting stronger and stronger and spending more and more time on my bike. I remember the exact moment while riding my bike, the promise that I made that little girl came back to me and like a lightning strike, I realized that if I worked very hard, I could use this love of cycling to help many people. I knew that I wanted to help children and through witnessing the tragedy of war through the eyes of my husband and son, who fought for our country, I picked the Special Operations Warrior Foundation to work with because their primary mission is to provide for the children of fallen soldiers. I set a goal of riding across America to be able to raise $100,000 that will go directly to the children of the Special Operations Warriors.

At that point I was still only able to ride 9 miles at a time, but I was determined to make this dream a reality so for the past two years I have been training and training and training to the point that now I am prepared to ride the full 4,280 miles across America. I am cycling across America to help the children, full stop!

I am asking you to join me on this wonderful adventure.
