What is the Dallas Buddy Walk?
The Buddy Walk® was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to promote awareness, inclusion, and acceptance of individuals with Down syndrome. What began as a single initiative has grown into a global movement, with more than 250 local Down syndrome associations now hosting Buddy Walks® across the world. Collectively, these events raise over $14 million annually to support local programs, outreach, and advocacy efforts.
In North Texas, the Dallas Buddy Walk® serves as the Down Syndrome Guild of Dallas’s signature fundraiser and awareness event. Each year, it draws more than 5,000 participants—including individuals with Down syndrome, their families, friends, and community supporters—for a day of celebration and unity. The event features a variety of family-friendly activities such as inflatables, live music, games, face painting, and vendor booths, offering fun for all ages. At the heart of the day is an inspiring awareness walk, honoring and celebrating every individual with Down syndrome. Leading up to the event, supporters form fundraising teams, helping to power the DSG’s mission and sustain essential programs that serve the North Texas Down syndrome community.
