Hike to provide scholarships for individuals and families to participate in outdoor programs

Today’s digital age is stressful and we’re seeing higher instances of anxiety, isolation, depression, suicide and obesity than ever before. Let’s break free from the clutches of technology overuse, rise above the digital noise and get back to what’s truly important. Connecting with each other, connecting with nature and engaging with the world around us. Let’s work together to create thriving individuals and communities through healthy relationships with each other, nature and technology.

About the Event

ENU Challenge: Hike 2B-RAD

Join us from October 1 - 31, 2021 and hike to be rad! This event has a dual purpose: to help you experience nature unplugged and to raise money to provide scholarships for individuals and families to participate in outdoor programs. It's a win win!

The timing and the spirit of this year’s event is in honor of Brad Humphrey, a committed husband, father, son, brother and friend who loved his community as much as he loved the great outdoors. He believed in the healing power of human connection and being active in nature—and so do we. Get to know Brad better—read his story here.

  • Register beginning September 1.
  • Sign-up as an individual or as a team.
  • Between October 1 - October 31, get hiking!

How to Donate:

Click the white button labeled “Donate” at the top of the page. Before you continue, you'll need to decide if you'd like to support an individual hiker, a team of hikers, or make a general donation.

To donate to the event, you'll click the green "Make a general donation" button. Choose a recommended donation amount or enter a custom amount.

To donate to an individual hiker, you'll type their name into the search bar and click the green "Continue" button. For individual hikers, you'll have the choice to make a pledge per mile (recommended dollar amounts will be automatically generated for you based on the individual’s or team’s total estimated miles) or to make a one-time flat donation.

To donate to a team of hikers, you'll type their team name into the search bar and click the green "Continue" button. You can also donate to an individual hiker who is also on a team. That donation will count toward both the individual's fundraising goal, and the team's larger fundraising goal.

Please Note: 2B-RAD is a nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status and your donation will be tax exempt.

How to Join the Hike:

Step 1: Guestimate how many miles you’ll hike/walk for the month of October, that becomes your pledged amount that you’ll list when you register. Whether it's 5, 20 or 100 miles, there's no amount too big or small!

  • Think you can do 2 miles per day? That's approximately 60 miles for the month
  • Does 5-10 miles/week sound like a good goal? That's anywhere from 20-40 miles for the month
  • Trail hiking is great, but be sure to include urban walks too!
  • Are you a runner? Good news! Those miles count too.

Step 2: Register for our event beginning September 1. All registered participants will get a digital swag bag full of goodies once the event begins!

Step 3: Reach out to friends and family to ask if they’ll support your efforts by sponsoring you! Recommended dollar amounts will be automatically generated for them based on your pledged miles (but make sure they know they can list any amount they’d like!).

Step 4: Download the AllTrails app to discover new trails nearby! If you live in the San Diego or San Francisco area, we've got a curated list of trails that will help you experience nature unplugged:

Step 5: Between October 1 - October 31, get hiking!

Step 6: Submit your final miles for the month of October by November 5, 2021. Celebrate your achievements and enjoy the benefits of time spent in nature unplugged!

Step 7: All participants who meet the minimum threshold ($100 raised and 10 miles logged) will be entered into a drawing for raffle prizes. Other prizes for a variety of categories will also be awarded on the week of November 15th.

In-Person San Diego Hikes

But for folks in the San Diego area, we're hosting a series of free in-person hikes all over the county. Come to one or all of them and explore new hikes and make new friends.
