Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!
My son, Carter Ankeny, of Fountain Valley, California was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on October 2, 2015 one month before his 5th birthday. He underwent chemotherapy treatments at CHOC for 21 months before finding out he relapsed on July 5, 2017 essentially starting over at day one of 3.5 years of treatment. On October 8, 2017 Carter passed away suddenly and shockingly due to a rare infection that occurred as a result of chemotherapy treatment. He was a ball of light who lived life with passion, tenacity, and immense love. Even after he was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of four years, he continued to live life to its fullest. His contagious smile and spirit won the hearts of many and his attitude about life and ability to thrive in the face of cancer inspired all. Carter was a fighter, a leukemia warrior, who faced every battle and challenge head on and usually with a smile. He fought to the end and showed us what it truly meant to be #Carterstrong. We will now carry on his legacy of strength, kindness, and love by being #CarterStrongForever and pursue a cure for cancer so no one has to feel the loss like we do every day. Carter’s type of cancer has a 90% cure rate, but it was side effects of the life saving chemotherapy treatments that took his life. The need for more research is clear.

September is childhood cancer awareness month. Pediatric cancer research receives less than 4% of annual national funding. Every two and a half minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer worldwide. Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease for children. Every day 7 children pass away from cancer. If lucky enough to survive childhood cancer, survivors have a 60% chance of facing serious side effects due to the life saving treatments they endured.

Gold is the color of childhood cancer awareness- you can help us by GOING GOLD this September and (all year long) by honoring all fighters and families undergoing a childhood cancer diagnosis.  Children are more precious than gold! Please help us raise much needed funds for childhood cancer research by donating directly to Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation. PCRF is dedicated to raising funds that go directly to research that improves the care, quality of life, and survival rate of children with malignant disease. Together we can find a cure.

Your donation helps fuel research, care, and real hope for kids and families facing pediatric cancer. The process is fast, easy, and secure—and every gift moves us closer to a world without pediatric cancer.

Thank you for putting on your super hero cape and joining me on this important mission.

Please consider sharing my page with fellow superheroes who believe in cures for pediatric cancer, too!
