My Reason for Running in the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon
I am thrilled to announce that I have signed up as a Charity Runner in the 2024 TCS NYC Marathon to support the Dup15q Alliance. I have seen first hand the many challenges this rare disorder poses, as one of my oldest and closest friends, Eileen Flood O'Connor has a daughter, Erin, who was diagnosed just before her second birthday. Dup15q Syndrome is characterized by having an extra copy of a portion of chromosome 15 in the 11.2 – 13.1 region in combination with a number of symptoms that may include, hypotonia, epilepsy, cognitive delay, motor delays, autism, and similar facial features. The Dup15q Alliance’s mission is to empower individuals living with dup15q syndrome and other related rare diseases to reach their full potential by advancing breakthrough research and life-changing therapeutic treatments, supporting families affected by dup15q, and promoting advocacy.
Over the years, it has been a joy to witness Erin’s contagious enthusiasm for books, tie-dye, holidays, surprise gifts, and her beloved support dogs. Through Eileen, I have come to appreciate the many hurdles - as well as the joy and unique perspective kids like Erin can give. I consider it a privilege to run NYC in support of Eileen, Erin and all of those affected by Dup15q. Please join me by making a gift to support the Dup15q Alliance!
