My Mission

My name is Benjamin Oliver, and I am a PA (Physician assistant/associate) who works in gastroenterology and is running a race for a cause. It is not just for any cause; it's for pancreatic cancer.

Working in healthcare exposes us to many illnesses, diseases and cancers; at times we are able to intervene directly, while in other cases, we are only able to offer support. Pancreatic cancer is something that is sneaky and often a cancer that we catch only when it has progressed beyond a certain point. That is why I am working with Project Purple, a nonprofit organization that is fighting against pancreatic cancer. By participating in this race, we’ll be raising money that goes towards additional research and patient aid. As someone who already enjoys running, teaming up with Project Purple for the Grandma's Marathon/ Half Marathon in Duluth, MN is a natural way to increase awareness of this cancer. Leading up to the race, hope to highlight additional aspects which include: Pancreatic cancer prevalence, risk factors, symptoms/presentation, diagnosis and current treatments.

Pancreatic cancer may have impacted someone you know, either directly or indirectly. As with many cancers, advancing, research and raising public awareness may help in detection and treatment. I'll be participating in the 36th Annual Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon, which is a race within Grandma's Marathon weekend. Our goal is to raise $1,000 by June 2026. Any contribution is a meaningful contribution towards pancreatic cancer. Help us pick up the pace against pancreatic cancer.
