My Mission with the Fuller Center Bike Adventure

What have you signed up to do this time?

Yes, you know I like a challenge and in 2025 I’m going to be undertaking an epic bicycle ride at home. Three weeks ago I had my left shoulder replaced and it is coming along fine, however I figure I should give my body a break this year from riding 1,000 miles in three weeks as I did in 2024. My fund raising in 2025 will again be for our all volunteer local The Fuller Chapter where we focus on keeping older folks, and veterans safely in their homes.

What’s the Fuller Center?

A 501(c)(3) very ecumenical Christian organization that believes everyone in the world deserves the opportunity to have a decent home in which to live. Jimmy Carter was a big supporter of this organization as well as Habitat for Humanity.

Ok, but what does our local chapter of the Fuller Center do?

We primarily repairs homes using volunteers in partnership with families, who help with the work and in many cases pay it forward using a no-profit, no-interest loan that gets repaid to help more families.

Fuller works through a grassroots network of volunteer-driven Fuller Centers in now 90 U.S. towns and cities and in 20 countries around the world. Work includes community transformation in El Salvador, Armenia and Madagascar to disaster recovery in places like Mayfield, Kentucky and in Haiti to name a few.

What happens to my donation?

The Fuller Center is known for maximizing donations by putting as much of the funds towards the work as possible. Their independent audit estimated that 94% of the funds go directly to program expenses, with only 6% to administrative and fundraising costs. This is a MUCH higher percentage to program than most groups given that the industry standard is 65% to program. The organization is also rated GuideStar Platinum, the charity evaluator's highest certification.

During 2025 I will be riding and hiking on my own often with rescue dog Tucker. Currently we are hiking about 2 miles a day one armed, and in 10 more weeks we will be riding about 5 miles a day on my fat bike with studded tires, I switch to a road bicycle, and we start doing 5 mile hikes.

Are there other ways I can help?

The rides do need crucial support volunteers and media interns (and often more riders!) if you know anyone interested in coming along, and this year Fuller has begun offering scholarships and bicycles to folks who wish to join in the building effort.

THANK YOU so much! This is a team event, and it’s not just the riders: by helping YOU are part of the team!

Can I send a check?

For check donations: Make checks payable to “The Fuller Center for Housing” with “bike — rider’s name” in the memo line. Mail to:
