The Lemur Freedom Project (LFP) is an international collaboration of primatologists, conservation biologists, and veterinarians committed to stopping the lemur pet trade, and ensuring humane and healthy conditions for medically and behaviorally unreleasable lemurs in Madagascar. Together, we will:
.) Build a state-of-the-art lemur sanctuary on Nosy Kissimassy Island in Madagascar.
.) Use cutting edge techniques to genetically identify hotspots of the lemur pet trade.
.) Deploy mitigation and education strategies to stop the collection of wild lemurs, and thereby protect multiple critically endangered species.
.) Build the first emergency lemur rescue and triage center, and formalize a national strategy for what to do with lemurs rescued from the pet trade.
