Why We Bird for Point Blue
Be part of Pont Blue Conservation Science’s 46th Annual Rich Stallcup Bird-A-Thon by joining this this beginning birder team and collaborative walk on Sunday, October 13th. The Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation has generously offered to host our team. Flock up with the Fledglings and bird with a purpose!
Just like any other “thon” you will be asking your friends and family to sponsor you as you raise funds for a great cause: conservation! Instead of miles walked or run, you’ll be counting as many bird species with your teammates as you can during our 2-hour walk. Folks can sponsor you per bird species or just make a flat donation. We will likely see 30-60 species in our 2 hours together.
Lishka Arata, Point Blue Biologist turned Educator turned Communicator, will be your team captain. During this family-friendly, all levels, inclusive walk your guide will provide birding basics lessons and help you identify the amazing species that inhabit the iconic Sonoma County wetland. Extra binoculars will be provided along with access to a spotting scope to see birds up close!
We ask that you commit to raising or donating a minimum of $20 for the Fledglings team to participate. Sign up for this walk via Eventbrite [link coming soon!]. Space is limited so grab your spot as soon as the sign up link drops! Please also register for the Fledglings team here. Or just support us with a donation! Reach out to birdathon@pointblue.org if you need help.
The Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation works to restore and conserve the Laguna de Santa Rosa, and to inspire appreciation for this Sonoma County Wetland of International Importance. Point Blue is proud to collaborate and partner with them towards shared goals.
Thank you for your generous support of our team and help in spreading the word. To learn more about Point Blue Conservation Science and their climate-smart conservation initiatives, visit their website at www.pointblue.org.

The Fledglings Bird-A-Thon was a hit this morning! We started off with a Red-breasted Sapsucker on a palm tree trunk, rapidly followed by a Peregrine Falcon flyover, then an American Kestrel mobbing a Red-Tailed Hawk! Whew! What a kick off! It was not surprising to see such great activity with native-habitat-filled grounds of the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation Environmental Center, our hosts for the walk! And after the first light rain of the fall. We ended the day with American goldfinches, a Western Fence Lizard, and the sounds of roosting Mexican free-tailed bats. And of course lots of great sightings in between.
