Support our team in the Great Wisconsin Birdathon!
Welcome to the team page of the BIPOC Flock!
Birds need our help! North America has lost over 3 billion birds since the 1970s, but we can help #BringBirdsBack. By donating to our team, you're supporting the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin's Bird Protection Fund, which funds Wisconsin's highest priority bird conservation projects.
You can support us by donating per species seen or a general donation. Your support would mean a lot to our team. Birds have made an incredible difference in our lives and we want to protect them. Every dollar counts when it comes to helping our birds, so no donation is too small. Thank you for considering!
We are a team comprised of members of the BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin, a community of people of color and allies who love the outdoors and the birds and beauty of natural Wisconsin and wish to connect with others who share the same passion. Our club was founded on Juneteenth 2021 by Jeff Galligan and Dexter Patterson, two birders of color on a mission to flip the script about who and what a birder looks like.
Since then, we’ve grown to over 750 members and have chapters in Madison and Milwaukee, with our Milwaukee chapter led by Rita Flores Wiskowski.
Our portion of any funds raised allows us to provide programming, events and collaborations around the state of Wisconsin. Our goal is to continue promoting equity, inclusion, and access to the great outdoors.
This is our second year participating in the Birdathon. We are excited to again go birding to raise funds for the BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin and to support priority bird conservation projects in Wisconsin.
In 2022, during the BIPOC Flocks inaugural Birdathon, we saw 73 species and raised almost $3,000. This year, we have set the lofty goal of seeing 90 species and raising $10,000 while we revel in some bird joy!
On Saturday, May 13, we will bird at two parks in Milwaukee; Warnimont and Lake. For more information and to sign up for our monthly newsletter go to: https://www.bipocbirdingclub.org/

Your Donation Makes a Difference For Birds
Donations made to the Great Wisconsin Birdathon support the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin’s Bird Protection Fund, which has given out over $1.3 million towards Wisconsin’s highest priority bird conservation projects since its inception in 2009.
Whether it's creating Piping Plover habitat, rearing Whooping Crane chicks, spreading awareness about Connecticut Warblers, supporting community initiatives for bird-friendly neighborhoods, engaging new and underrepresented voices in the birding community, building impactful collaborations to protect Wisconsin's Important Bird Areas, or protecting our neotropical migrants on their long migratory journeys to Central America... the Bird Protection Fund is there to help.
Your donations make this work possible. Thank you for supporting on-the-ground conservation and being there #ForTheBirds!
