Our Mission
We are the “Fly me to the Loon” Team, enthusiastic birdwatchers, who will try to spot as many birds as possible between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., on April 26th. Not only are we excited about seeing well over 100 birds in one day, but it’s for a cause we all believe in. Golden Gate Bird Alliance is about Bird Conservation, education and preserving the natural habitat of the Bay Area for all to enjoy. We are all volunteers who fiercely support the important work of GBBA. Please help us in this effort by pledging your support on behalf of Golden Gate Bird Alliance! Thanks! We’ll keep you posted.. Every dollar counts! Thank you.

Fly me to the Loon had a great day mainly focused in San Francisco. We started at 5:45 on Mt Davidson and had some early surprises such as Vaux's swift and White-throated swift. We birded all day and ate lunch on the go. Shorebirds such as dunlin, and western sandpipers were numerous a couple of hours after high tide. And there was a bonus short-billed dowitcher. We had some notable misses also such as greater yellowlegs, barn owl (not in the position previously scouted) and Hutton's vireo. However we had a great day, traveling in an electric vehicle the whole day with Nico's incomparable driving, Krish's energy and ebird listing and Angie's birding and fundraising skills. All in all a great day. Thank you everyone so much for your generous donations. It is so so appreciated

Hi and thank you for supporting my "Big Day" effort. The "Fly me to the Loon" team was up on Mount Davidson by 5:45 a.m. and some of us didn't get back home until 10:30 p.m. We walked over 14 miles and visited 23 different locations, mostly in San Francisco with a quick jaunt to Oakland at the end of the day. Best of all, we did it in an all-electric VW, so we may get the honorary prize for being the most carbon-neutral team two years in a row. Thanks to Rachel for planning our route and to Nico for his excellent navigation and driving skills! Krish kept up our energy with his boundless enthusiasm and a late coffee run. We saw 131 different species of birds, not enough to win the competition, but we tried our best, not even stopping for lunch. We also had lots of fun!
Most importantly, we raised over $4,000 dollars to support the conservation efforts of Golden Gate Bird Alliance. Thanks for helping us make that happen!
