Most of my runs are always dedicated to someone special to me. Since March is Kidney Cancer Awareness Month, I've decided to dedicate my running miles to my best friend, Lisa. Being friends since the age of 4, we have experienced all of our life events together, both happy and sad; cancer is no exception. I created Team Queen Beans - with a Queen being a reference to nickname I gave Lisa back in our High School days!!

Lisa was diagnosed in late November 2023. She had a radical nephrectomy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in NYC in December. The 9cm tumor was stage 2 Clear cell renal carcinoma. Thankfully, the tumor was caught and removed before it could spread beyond the kidney…. But her entire Kidney had to go.

Her strength and determination during this time has been such an inspiration to me. I admire how she always manages to stay positive, no matter what obstacles she is faced with. Lisa is the epitome of a true warrior or shall I say Queen Warrior 👸🏻

I have joined the 82k challenge and will run 50.9 miles (completed on 6/8) equivalent to 82 kilometers and also walk 82 miles (completed on 5/31) for the nearly 82,000 people who will be diagnosed with kidney cancer this year from now until June 20, which is World Kidney Cancer Day🧡 👟

Lisa, is not a runner, but in efforts to improve her own health, post cancer, and put in work and effort to keep it from returning, she has also committing to do 82 miles in March, through a combination of cycling and walking. She will track and provide updates to keep her accountable! 😉 She trusts me to get the 50 miles / 82k's done…. but suggests we watch and verify her progress! 🤣🤣🤣
