Our Mission
We're back in the Birdathon, this year with a new team, to support Columbus Audubon!
Bill and Mary are heading to northwestern Ohio in mid-May. Will the birds and the weather cooperate? Will the shorebird habitat be good, with plenty of wet mudflats? (Yeah, birders look for such things.) Will the annoying insects that birds love to munch on be out in force? (Yeah, birders endure such things.) Will it be cold and rainy or hot and sunny? (Yeah, birders are ready for anything.)
Whatever we encounter, we hope to encounter plenty of birds. And we do it with lots of encouragement because of your generous support. Please make a pledge and help us #SaveTheBirds!

Well, it was a wonderful Birdathon for us! Depending on how you count the 24 hours (24 consecutive hours or 24 hours of active birding time....YES, I choose THiS latter calculation, please!), we did indeed meet our goal!! And those 118 species included 21 different warbler species, too. Very fun! And very rewarding because of YOUR generosity in supporting my efforts for the benefit of Columbus Audubon! THANK YOU!

As I described in my email report, we saw 95 species in our best 24 hour period (11:30 am Tuesday, May 16 - 11:30 Wednesday, May 17), so that's our "official" Birdathon total. For our entire trip, we managed 118 species -- and loads of good times!
What, you didn't receive my email report? Just let me know and I'll send you a copy!
A huge THANK YOU to all who contributed to support our Birdathon. If you didn't have a chance to do so but would like to now, there's still time.
The photo here is of the coolest bird of the trip (IMHO), a Lark Sparrow. But the photo is not of the one that we saw, and not mine -- thanks instead to Mick Thompson for this great shot!

The Old Crownies saw 95 bird species over the course of 24 hours during our three-day trip to NW Ohio. For the entire trip, we totaled 118 species, hours and hours of sunshine (yay!), lots of peanut butter sandwiches, and innumerable moments filled with good times! A more detailed report to come....
