May 18 with beautiful weather, friends & birds! Friends in/out as necessary for individual schedules. Total 80 specie, one better than previous year. Best bird was blue grossbeak continuously scouring a field. Thanks to everyone.

Alli Shaw, SRMP naturalist, was able to join us this year for the wetland & early part of the forest surveys before leaving to oversee the farm. BKeckley, LPatterson, TWiczer & I were fortunate for a beautiful sunny non windy 62° morning. A sandhill crane flew into a cell right in front of us and 3 green herons flew together over head which initially appeared to be crows.

Shady Grove as always held a good variety of birds. Here CPickrel & LHelm joined the team as AShaw left for the farm.

We birded the forest to Buzzard’s Roost and ate out lunches in a picnic area there.

BKeckley & CPickrel departed for previous commitments.

The remaining four of us drove to various locations to pick up missed species. The highlight was a male blue grossbeak who was continually feeding in a field giving good looks.

Our tally for the day was 80 upping last year’s of 79.

Excellent birding with excellent weather & birders.
