Team participating in Fight for Literacy Games 22-23

Our kids. Our schools. Our community. Join the team to help every child learn to read.

**As of 2/28 $13,604 raised by the Shocker Community + $5,000 matching gift unlocked and $10,000 flat donation from International Paper granted = $28,604 for local USD 259 Students 🎉🎉🎉**

Wichita State Shockers are teaming up with United Way of the Plains, Coaching for Literacy and International Paper to help every child learn to read.

Donations will stay local with United Way of the Plains to fund literacy programs, provide resources and buy books featuring diverse characters to help kindergarten through third grade students in the Shocker neighborhood learn to read.

  • Students not reading at grade level by fourth grade are four times more likely to drop out of school.
  • 79% of Wichita third graders were not reading proficiently in 2021.
  • Illiterate kids grow into illiterate adults – and 43% live in poverty compared to 4% of literate adults.

$10 provides 2 books for a child. Thanks to Coaching for Literacy, the first $5,000 raised will be matched, dollar-for-dollar.

Rally your friends, family and co-workers to join you in donating. The winning team will be honored at the game.
