Counting Birds for Conservation

We are UC San Diego bird lovers and we excited to take part in the San Diego Birdathon, a birding challenge supporting San Diego Bird Alliance’s local conservation, education, and advocacy efforts that benefit birds, other wildlife, and all who enjoy them.

We will be birding May 4th so please join the team and share any birds you see within those 24 hours with brsanche@ucsd.edu so we may make a collective bird list :). Any UCSD peeps 🦉 are welcome to join!

We're proud to help protect endangered birds like the California Least Tern, Ridgway's Rail, and Belding's Savannah Sparrow by counting as many bird species as we can in 24 hours during our Birdathon. Please consider supporting our efforts by giving to our page. You can leave a flat donation to our team or make a pledge per species when donating to a team member (both are tax-deductible). Every dollar counts for our feathered friends! Thank you.

wet and rained on but after 3 different locations and approx 7+ hours of birding... we reached 69 species and we so earned it 🥳

thank you to ALL the people who birded with UCSD's team & helped us find them all, even if we ended up looking as frazzled as this tricolored heron by the end of it
