Support our team in the Great Wisconsin Birdathon!

Join the Schlitz Audubon Screech Owls to help us log as many species as we can at the Center through June 15. Bird and log species on your own, join us for our group outing on Wednesday, May 22, or do it all!

Screech Owls Group Event

  • When: 6:30 a.m. – noon on Wednesday, May 22

  • Where: Meet at the Center in the Tower Lot

  • What: Join one of our guided groups to help us meet our goal of finding 100 species during the Birdathon! Bird for a few hours, or feel free to stay with the group through mid-day. Snacks will be provided, but bring binoculars, comfortable footwear, and layered clothing.

You can also support this stellar team – or your favorite member – with a per species pledge or one-time donation through June 15! Half of your donation will stay with Schlitz Audubon Nature Center to support ornithological education programming and citizen science efforts. The other half will go to the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin's Bird Protection Fund, which funds Wisconsin's highest priority bird conservation projects.

While I didn't make it to the 100 mark during this time frame, I'm really excited to have gotten to 87! My fave sightings were definitely of the pileated woodpecker, mourning warbler, and yellow-bellied flycatcher. Can't wait for fall migration!

This morning's Birdathon hike at Schlitz went super well! Myself and two others were assigned the Lake Michigan Terrace walk and we had an amazing time catching all sorts of birds through our viewfinders! We found 57 species overall, including 13 warblers and a female Pileated Woodpecker! A really wonderful morning with wonderful people (and wonderful birds)!

Your Donation Makes a Difference For Birds

Donations made to the Great Wisconsin Birdathon support the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin’s Bird Protection Fund, which has given out over $1.4 million towards Wisconsin’s highest priority bird conservation projects since its inception in 2009.

Whether it's creating Piping Plover habitat, rearing Whooping Crane chicks, spreading awareness about declining songbirds, supporting community initiatives for bird-friendly neighborhoods, engaging new and underrepresented voices in the birding community, building impactful collaborations to protect Wisconsin's Important Bird Areas, or protecting our neotropical migrants on their long migratory journeys to Central America... the Bird Protection Fund is there to help.

Your donations make this work possible. Thank you for supporting on-the-ground conservation and being there #ForTheBirds!
