Our Mission
On August 19th, 2024, Team Apawamis including Deuayne Crawford (CSF '06), Craig Stewart, Michael Phillips and Wendell Johnson will take the formidable challenge to play as many holes of golf as possible in one day at the Knollwood Country Club in Elmsford, NY. From sun up to sun down, they will look to raise money and awareness for the Metropolitan Golf Association Caddie Scholarship Fund (CSF). Deuayne will be playing in his 13th golf marathon in a row this year! Last year, Deuayne, his awesome team and amazing supporters raised over $13,000 for Team Apawamis. All of the golfers raised over $300,000 combined last year.
Breaking news! Deuayne is proud that he teamed up with caddie scholarship alumni, long time friends and family in Westchester to establish a brand new golf scholarship in 2024, the Alumni Endowed Fund! This new scholarship spotlights alumni, memorializes their stories and further builds on the legacy of giving through golf. This moment is special to Deuayne because Deuayne’s late father, Peter Phillips would be very proud of this tremendous accomplishment. Deuayne has never done anything like this before and was empowered by the advice and influence from local leaders, Lee Paton, John Connor and others. This scholarship endeavor was a huge success because it launched within a year. Deuayne loves his community! This annual golf marathon is evidence of that long lasting love.
In past years, we celebrated the current scholarship recipients and Deuayne’s career and educational success, which Deuayne today gives much credit to years of mentorship, sponsorship and scholarship through golf in Westchester and the amazing folks at the Apawamis Club. There are many other alumni stories similar to Deuayne’s. We still celebrate the late Peter Phillips, who was an avid supporter of the CSF and a caddie favorite at Apawamis. We still show respects to all of our cherished people in our community who are not here today but left us with good memories and good examples for us to follow. #WalkGivePlay. We continue to celebrate brotherhood, education, mentorship, respect and positivity.
Thank you again for those who have been committed to the scholarship recipients. Deuayne continues to testify about his positive experiences including how he ultimately became a board member and chair of this amazing organization. A humbling and motivating story.
To support our efforts, you can pledge any flat amount or pledge for each hole of golf we play. For example, if you pledge $1 per hole for a team member and that member completes 100 holes, that’s $100 towards the WGA Caddie Scholarship Fund. It will be a fun, but challenging day and your backing will help keep us going!
The Metropolitan Golf Association Caddie Scholarship Fund (MGACSF), formerly called the Westchester Golf Association Caddie Scholarship Fund, Inc. (WGACSF), is a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational, nonprofit organization, that provides financial need-based scholarships to caddies and others who work in service to golf at local participating golf and country clubs throughout the following counties: Fairfield (CT), Bronx, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester (NY) Counties.
It was founded in 1956 by renowned amateur golfer Willie Turnesa and his good friend Udo Reinach. Today, the Fund awards an average of 250 scholars a year, representing an annual one-year tuition commitment of $1.0 million. The MGA Caddie Scholarship Fund is one of the largest organizations of its kind in the country.

I want to personally send a thank you to everyone that donated to this great cause. We played 85 holes and raised over $20,000. As a group, including all the other teams, we raised over $127,000. This is a great cause and we are truly dedicated to it! To see the overwhelming support that we received really warms my heart and makes me more proud to do this! Please never forget this great role you played in getting scholars funds for college. I was once one of those young scholars. From my team, Michael, Wendell, Chris and me, THANK you so much! You showed up once again for us and it means a lot. Sincerely, Deuayne and team!
