Linden, VA is the premiere wine grape region on the East Coast. It is nestled in the rolling hills of the Shenandoah and offers the highest quality soils, climates, and growing conditions for wine grapes. Recognizing the potential in Linden, Capstone Vineyards was planted in 2013. Their site faces due south, sits between 1000-1500’ elevation, and is composed primarily of Meyersville and Catoctin series soils - predominantly weathered silica based rock and sandy loam deposits. Currently, there are 12.5 acres under vine with another 10 acres being planted in the coming years. Currently planted are Merlot, Chardonnay, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Chenin Blanc, Muscat Ottonel, Roussanne, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc. Given the variability in soil, grade, and aspect, the vineyard lends itself to both sparkling wines and concentrated reds. Capstone takes advantage of this unique site and offers several bold red blends, elegant still white wines, and several sparkling wines made in both the charmat and champagne methods.
