Run for RMHC with Team The Earth Warriors

We are Team The Earth Warriors (named after Ira Finnley), and we're excited to run for an incredible cause! The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon & SW Washington (RMHC) provides a home away from home and a community of support for families with seriously ill or injured children. It’s a mission that is very personal to our team, as we've experienced their compassion firsthand.

Ira's Story

Our journey with RMHC started when Kate developed preeclampsia at 26 weeks, leading to four hospitalizations totalling over 30 days! Our team's namesake, Ira Finnley (The Earth Warrior), was born prematurely by an emergency C-section, right on the super blue moon. Ira was born weighing under 4 pounds, diagnosed with IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), and faced a lot of challenges, including low oxygen, jaundice, oral ties, and failure to thrive.

The amazing staff at the RMHC Heartfelt House took care of us, giving us a place to stay, rest, and eat so we could focus all our energy on caring for Ira. Thanks to the incredible team at PeaceHealth NICU, the support from the Heartfelt House, and Ira's own determination, Ira graduated from the NICU in just two weeks—much faster than the estimated four plus months.

Ira just turned 4 in August, and this will be their fifth time running in the Run for RMHC! We are so proud to be a part of this event and to give back to the organization that supported us during one of the toughest times in our lives.
