Anthony Lemma

I started participating in Swim Across the Sound because cancer has affected so many people in my life. Growing up close to where the swim takes place, I always knew people who were involved in this incredible event and understood how much it meant to the community.

I decided to participate myself after becoming a Division I swimmer at Marist, where I met many teammates and friends whose lives had also been impacted by this disease. Together, we created Marist’s first Swim Across the Sound team. Since that first year, the current members of the swim team have continued the tradition every year and have consistently finished among the top teams in the event.

Even though my friends and I are no longer in college, this cause still means a great deal to us. We wanted to continue being part of something that brings people together for such an important mission and helps support individuals and families affected by cancer.
