My Mission
Anyone who knows me, knows I love birds – seeing birds, hearing birds, talking about birds, showing birds to others! That’s why I’m deeply worried that birds are under threat and in serious decline. In fact, 3 BILLION Birds have disappeared since 1970! That trajectory is continuing. It feels impossible to personally impact global warming or large-scale habitat loss or many of the other threats facing birds, but we can act locally. That's why I'm passionate in my support of Golden Gate Bird Alliance, whose mission is to protect Bay Area Birds and their habitats. It has been doing just that since 1917.
I have personally seen the impact of GBBA’s dedicated staff and volunteers. I’m proud to be one of those volunteers – serving on the Board, leading field trips and serving as co-Chair of the San Francisco Conservation Committee.
Once a year, GBBA organizes a major fundraiser. The Bay Birding Challenge is part of that. I am excited to be on a terrific team that is competing to see the most birds in one day – starting at 5:00 a.m. and ending at 9:00 p.m. More importantly we are doing this to raise funds to support GBBA’s work. Please support my efforts by giving to my page. Every dollar counts! Many thanks for your support! Stay tuned.

Hi and thank you for supporting my "Big Day" effort. The "Fly me to the Loon" team was up on Mount Davidson by 5:45 a.m. and some of us didn't get back home until 10:30 p.m. We walked over 14 miles and visited 23 different locations, mostly in San Francisco with a quick jaunt to Oakland at the end of the day. Best of all, we did it in an all-electric VW, so we may get the honorary prize for being the most carbon-neutral team two years in a row. Thanks to Rachel for planning our route and to Nico for his excellent navigation and driving skills! Krish kept up our energy with his boundless enthusiasm and a late coffee run. We saw 131 different species of birds, not enough to win the competition, but we tried our best, not even stopping for lunch. We also had lots of fun!
Most importantly, we raised over $4,000 dollars to support the conservation efforts of Golden Gate Bird Alliance. Thanks for helping us make that happen!
