Our Story - Buddy Walk of NEPA
History of the Buddy Walk
The Buddy Walk® was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness. The walk itself is a family fun day with food, entertainment, raffles, children’s events and the ceremonial walk to celebrate our loved ones with Down Syndrome, making this an extraordinary day of awareness.
Generous support by our community has made it possible to provide a variety of support services to children and adults with Down Syndrome and their families.
A little about NDSS:
Founded in 1979, the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) empowers individuals with Down syndrome and their families by driving policy change, providing resources, engaging with local communities, and shifting public perceptions. The organization’s work is achieved through three key areas of programming: Resources & Support, Policy & Advocacy, and Community Engagement. The Mission of NDSS is to empower individuals with Down syndrome and their families by driving policy change, providing resources, engaging with local communities, and shifting public perceptions.
