Playing for Pride 365

Playing for Pride is Athlete Ally's premier fundraising campaign. Through the campaign, we bring together athletes, teams, leagues, and fans to support Athlete Ally's mission of making sports inclusive for the LGBTQI+ community. The Playing for Pride 365 Campaign is our campaign that runs throughout the calendar year.

History of Playing for Pride

In 2017, pro soccer player Austin da Luz saw the LGBTQI+ community in his state come under attack, and started Playing for Pride as a way for professional soccer players to show their support for LGBTQI+ inclusion in and through sport. In the years since, Playing for Pride has mobilized athletes across sports, teams, leagues, sport reporters and fans to support LGBTQI+ inclusion in and through sport.

2023 Campaign Proceeds

This year, Athlete Ally will direct 50% of Playing for Pride proceeds towards local trainings for athletes, coaches and administrators on LGBTQI+ athletic inclusion in Florida and Texas, two states where young LGBTQI+ athletes are under considerable threat of exclusion and erasure. The remaining half of proceeds will support our programmatic work developing educational resources, championing inclusive sport policies, mobilizing athletes from the college, pro, Olympic and Paralympic levels, and conducting research on LGBTQI+ athletic inclusion.
