River City Junior Rowing Team ROW-A-THON

River City Rowing Junior Team is a competitive program for athletes looking for something that will challenge them both in sports and in life, emphasizing fitness, self-discipline, teamwork and camaraderie. These athletes train four to six days per week September through May, dedicating hours of focused, strenuous, work alongside their teammates; since 2022 their effort has lead to 13 boats qualifying for USRowing Youth Nationals. Athletes identify the friendships and confidence they build through rowing as the reason they row, and for these competitive successes. To keep the experiences and opportunities of rowing as affordable as possible, junior team athletes fundraise to cover a portion of program expenses, which include paying our dedicated coaches, continual maintenance of boats, the dock and boathouse, and competition at regattas. If we raise funds beyond covering program expenses, then we can work towards purchasing new equipment for training and competition.

December 7 and 8, 2024, is the Junior Team's primary fundraiser of the year, and they are asking you to support their year round dedication with a donation. To earn your support, on both December 7 and on December 8, each athlete - rowers and coxswains! - will complete a challenging workout and row as many meters as possible. Please support them in their effort with a flat donation or push them to reach more with a per kilometer pledge!

Every donation contributes to our success - thank you!

Athletes: create your fundraising page

  1. Click "Create Fundraising Page" at the top of the page, then 'Join A Team", and follow the rest of the set up prompts

  2. You will be prompted to enter the estimated number of kilometers (NOT meters!) you will erg. If you want the push of donors pledging a certain amount per kilometer, enter a goal number; it will show on on your personal page so donors can calibrate their pledge to support you! If you did the event last year, you can base your goal off of your 2023 total. If you are unsure your goal or don't wish to ask for donations per kilometer, simply enter 0.

  3. You can edit your fundraising page by personalizing the text and adding photos, or use the default text. Add at least a 'profile' photo so your supporters see YOU. Remember - more important than having a perfect page is sharing it with your friends and family!

  4. After setting up the page, enter the email address of your supporters. Enter 20 (or more) to be eligible for prizes! You can either personalize the message or leave the default text. If you are not entering goal kilometers, edit the default message to reflect that (it'll be very quick to do). Send the message!

  5. Start reaching out to friends and family to ask if they’ll support your efforts by donating to you! From your Pledge It account you can share your page through social media, and be sure to talk to your supporters in person, too. You'll be able to see who has supported you; be sure to thank them through the platform and/or in person.

  6. On December 9, log your total kilometers directly in Pledge It.

  7. Keep an eye on the leaderboards to see how the team is doing!
