In a world where we continue to work towards full inclusion for individuals with Down syndrome, we are doing our part to pave the way by creating our own place, A Place For Me. At A Place For Me, we work together to provide a place where all of our friends and family are welcome to join us in building relationships, participate in group activities, and have a safe and supportive place for all members of our community.
A Place For Me has been funded by our ongoing fundraising efforts and in order to keep this resource center open and no cost to the families it supports, we are asking for your assistance in reaching out to business owners, your place of employment, or other community supporters, to help provide financial support to make A Place For Me sustainable for the long term future. A Place for Me just opened in the middle of Pierce County to provide supports and resources to the Down syndrome community and their families and friends. It is a free registration and there is no fee to attend. All funding is currently completed through fundraising during the Buddy Walk.
Location: 1918 112th Street East, Tacoma WA 98445
A Place for Me will have the below schedule.
Mondays 4-7: age specific night
Thursdays 4-7: open to all
Saturdays 9-12: specific instruction for the entire family
Each age group and topic is defined on the calendar below.
All of our supports are volunteer ran. Volunteers all have background checks and training. However, volunteers are there to support but it’s important and required that all parents stay there and help with their children, or adults, and help keep things clean and taken care of. Self advocates are allowed to attend without a parent if appropriate.
In order to participate, there is zero fee for the family. We will gladly take snack donations, as we will not provide these regularly without donations received. All Buddy walk proceeds are used to fund A Place for Me. You will need to register your family before you can participate.
