Let's Walk to Inspire the Future Generation on Earth Day
Latinas in STEM (LIS) invites you to our Earth Day Walk-a-thon between April 15 and April 30, 2025. We want to make an impact on the the schools, classrooms, and students in underserved communities. We want to inspire the future generation and the future diverse STEM leaders through an engaging STEM experiences like STEM 101 Day, scholarships, and our Mentorship Program.
To increase the participation of Hispanic females in the STEM pipeline, the LIS Foundation began working within Latinx communities nationwide to generate enthusiasm & support for STEM careers. Since 2013, regional collaborations have been established in CA, TX and NJ.
STEM 101 Day
Our STEM 101 Day inspires Latina students, especially within underserved communities, by introducing them to STEM careers through access to more STEM education. The workshop exposes young Latinas to STEM and gives them hands-on experience in engineering. Latinas in STEM also recognizes the importance of education and empowering their parents so that they may be better positioned to support their daughters along their educational journey.
Mentorship Program
Our Mentorship Program connects Latinas pursuing STEM degrees with accomplished Latina role models who offer guidance, support, and encouragement. Through these relationships, students gain the confidence and resources they need to reach their academic and professional goals. We also partner with community colleges to build a volunteer pipeline for K–12 STEM outreach activities, inspiring the next generation.
LIS Scholarships
The LIS Scholarships provide critical financial assistance to Latinas enrolled in 2- or 4-year colleges pursuing STEM degrees. These funds help cover the cost of essential materials—such as textbooks, lab supplies, and technology—ensuring students are equipped to succeed in their coursework.

How It Works
Set a fundraising goal of your choice.
Confirm or estimate how many miles you plan to walk from April 16 to April 30.
Reach out to friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, you personal network to ask them if they are able to support you efforts by donating or pledging. See our Resource page to find creative ways to ask for donations.
Log your miles after your walking activity, whatever it may be, manually from your preferred fitness/health app.
