Our Mission
Every kid deserves to go to school. Our Swimathon is raising funds to expand Bright Minds Academy to include a high school, so girls in Northern Nigeria can complete their education and go on to college. Bright Minds Academy currently provides free middle school education to out-of-school girls.
The longer a girl stays in school, the later she tends to get married, the healthier her children, and the more economically stable her community becomes. By expanding Bright Minds Academy to include a high school, we're empowering the next generation of women leaders and change makers.
We're setting aside scholarship money for every girl enrolled in Bright Minds Academy to attend a local university upon graduation. But first we need to build a high school--in a community where many high schools are shuttered due to lack of funds. That's where our Swimathon and your generous support comes in!
Thank you for helping us raise the funds to build this high school. Every dollar makes a difference!

About Bright Minds
Bright Minds Africa was founded by Yvette Mohbashi, a Cameroonian with the dream of making education accessible to girls in her community, and Gina Dettmer, a Peace Corps volunteer from Brisbane, CA. With a relatively small budget, they lead a team of educators and health professionals who are transforming communities in West Africa where other nonprofits don't go. Since 2018, Bright Minds has:
built and operated 2 schools and 5 libraries
constructed clean water projects in 20 communities
provided healthcare services to thousands of women & children
operated a microfinance program for women
awarded 350+ scholarships to local schools and universities
Thank you for joining us in our mission to empower girls and women. Every dollar makes a difference!
