My Story
After a routine NFL drug screening last fall, I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. It was something I never expected to hear.
Thankfully, my cancer was caught early. After our Thursday night win against the Raiders, I had surgery the very next day.
Everything happened incredibly fast. I was fortunate to have the support of my wife, Sam, my agent Paul Sheehy, the Broncos organization, and an incredible medical team throughout it all.
Before my diagnosis, I didn’t know all the signs and symptoms of testicular cancer or how important early detection can be.
Testicular cancer is the leading cancer in men ages 15–44, but it can strike at any age.
Every hour, a male is diagnosed with testicular cancer.
1 out of every 250 males will develop testicular cancer in their lifetime.
If detected early, testicular cancer is over 95% curable.
That is why I’m teaming up with the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation (TCAF), a national nonprofit working to raise awareness, encourage early detection, and support patients, survivors, and caregivers.

The Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation (TCAF) was formed in 2009 by Kim Jones after her son, Jordan, was diagnosed with late-stage testicular cancer. Against all odds, Jordan made a full recovery, but he tragically relapsed and passed away in 2016. Today, Jordan’s journey drives TCAF’s mission to educate the public on the importance of awareness and early detection, while supporting those affected by the disease.
Early detection made all the difference for me. Now I want to help make sure more men know what to look for, feel comfortable talking about their health, and have support when they need it.
